I’m sure myself and Sam are not the only ones that have mothers out there that miss us terribly. We miss them too!
Sam’s parents are only a 20min drive from Downtown Vancouver, so we are there for dinner every week like clockwork. My parents are a bit more of a trek up the coast from the city by ferry. We make weekends out of it about once a month. Not right now of course! We are homebound like so many of us.
I think it’s fair to say that it’s harder on the mothers than anyone right now. They are either at home, not able to see their grown-up kids and grandkids, or they are at home having had to transform themselves into a full-time domestic goddess, mom and teacher, all while possibly trying to fit in a career.
Growing up, I would always pick out an extremely cool piece of jewelry for my mom, sister and grandma every year. I had an eye for it!
Even if I just had $50 to spend, I would somehow find something that looked like a million bucks. Just writing this I’m realizing that every time I went to see my Grandma, she was always wearing a piece of jewelry I had bought for her. .
She would say “Jason, do you recognize my earrings?” ”Of course Grandma!” and then we talk and talk about when she got them. She always remembers if it was Christmas 1999 or Mothers Day 2004. That’s what jewelry does, it captures memories every time.
Now that me and Sam are all grown up and pushing 40, I think we can afford to step it up hard core this year, bring our Mothers’ Day “A” Game and spoil the women rotten!
